Gmails Promotions Tab Can Hurt You

Last week Google rolled out some big changes to Gmail. They’ve created a new category tab structure in your Gmail account that separates your emails into 3 categories: Primary, Social, and Promotions. If you send out marketing or newsletters through email, Gmails Promotions Tab can hurt you.

This is what Gmail Tabs look like

How Gmails Promotions Tab Can Hurt You

Gmail now decides for you where your emails belong. If Google doesn’t consider you a personal contact of the bride/groom you are sending your email to, then they’ll send your email directly to the Promotions tab.

This means when you send emails or marketing newsletters to your list of brides & grooms, your email could be sent to their Promotions tab and may never be seen.

How to Fix This

To ensure your email subscribers who use Gmail don’t miss your emails, simply notify them about these changes. Share this information with them so they can change their Gmail settings and prevent your emails from going straight to their Promotions tab.

I’ve explained how to change your Gmail settings in 3 easy steps below. Try out the process using “deb(@)weddingphotousa.com” as your test email. This way you can try out the steps plus make sure you don’t miss out on receiving any of my business building tips or news/updates that I send to you. Once you’ve gone through the steps, you can explain the process to your own email subscribers so they don’t miss out on your emails too.

Step 1

Go to the Promotions tab and find an Email from “[email protected]”.

Step 2

Drag that email into your Primary tab.

Step 3

You’ll get an alert saying, “This conversation has been moved to Primary. Do this for future messages from deb(@)weddingphotousa.com?” And click “YES!”
