Look Great in Wedding Photos – 5 Easy Tips

Couple

Apart from having butterflies in your stomach from excitement, a wedding can leave some with a feeling of the jitters. Although most couples feel generally excited and look great in wedding photos, some aren’t quite so comfortable with being the center of attention, making wedding photography a dreaded event.

However, if you’d like to feel at ease – after all, you should enjoy your own wedding day! – here are some things to bear in mind to ensure that you will look great in wedding photos, no matter how nervous you may be at first:

  1. Pick a good photographer and get to know them.
The importance of a great photographer can’t be emphasized enough. Any experienced wedding photographer will have their own techniques to make you feel comfortable around them. Where possible, spend some time together before the big day. The better you know someone, the more likely you are to relax in their presence. Meeting in person prior to the wedding can really help, and can provide a good excuse to invest in an engagement shoot. Why not follow your photographer on social networks? You might not get to speak to them as often as you do your close friends, but they will soon feel less like a stranger.

  2. Restrict ‘amateur’ photography where possible.
With good photography equipment becoming more accessible and affordable in recent years, it won’t be uncommon for many of your guests to bring their own cameras. This can be a great way to get some extra snaps, but to avoid becoming overwhelmed it’s acceptable to ask for a ‘no photography’ section to your day, giving priority to your professional photographer. This will mostly be applicable upon entrance to the wedding ceremony itself and during your meal. After all, you will surely want your guests to enjoy the day with their eyes and not through a lens.

  3. Be clear about what exactly makes you uncomfortable.
Controlling your feelings will do wonders to help look great in wedding photos. If it is simply nerves that make you uncomfortable about wedding photography, these will eventually go as you settle into enjoying the day and as you forget that the camera is even on you. But, it’s always a good idea to be clear with your photographer why exactly you’re anxious. If you’re not into posing, ask for more pictures taken from the afar. Discussing these concerns earlier mean you can plan alternatives to help you fully enjoy your day.

  4. Be super organized.
Make a list beforehand of any essential photos you want, who they should be with and where they should be taken. This is now a standard discussion to have with your photographer prior to the big day, but the more thorough you are, the better. If you designate a window to get the traditional pictures done and dusted, you can organize the experience much quicker and with less stress meaning you can get to the party sooner!

  5. Do what your photographer tells you!
A great photographer will know what they are doing. Remember, they want you to look great in wedding photos so if they’re asking you to do something, it’s because it will make for a great photo, and not to make you look ridiculous. The end results will have their name to it so they have their own interests to cater for as well! Just smile and enjoy the day. If you feel silly doing something, just laugh through it. These pictures where you are genuinely happy and smiley will be the greatest of the day.
