North Carolina Wedding Photographer Feature: Photoplay Photography

Chris Marsh - Photoplay Photography North CarolinaWe recently had the opportunity to meet Chris of Photoplay Photography. Chris is a wedding photographer based out of Charlotte North Carolina. We’re excited to introduce her and her beautiful North Carolina wedding photography!

We asked her what she loves most about photographing weddings and she said, “If I were to have to choose one thing I love most about shooting weddings it would be the small part I play in a family’s history. It is a joy to know that for years to come the images we create on a wedding day will be the precious historical record for a family. My heart swells in knowing that someday, someone may look back and hold with such treasure one moment in time that I was able to capture. It’s amazing to me and I love playing a part each and every time.”

If you’re looking for a wedding photographer in North Carolina, consider Photoplay Photography! Find out more about her in our interview below.

North Carolina Wedding Photography1. How and when did you get started?
I began shooting more than 16 years ago on my days off as a Police Officer in South Carolina. I started by photographing families and beach weddings alongside a mentor that showed me the ins and outs of basic photography. I expounded upon my education at the Art Institute and at every workshop I could possibly attend. Eventually I set out on my own and left public service for the private sector.

2. What is your photographic style?
I have had the privilege to work alongside some of the most talented photographers on the east coast. By working with those that specialized in certain styles, I was able to glean the most intriguing aspects of each. It became part of my interpretation to bring elements of photo-journalism, editorial and traditional portraiture to my own personal style.

Charlotte NC Wedding Photography3. What piece of equipment is most important to you?
The most important piece of equipment to me is not one piece of equipment at all but rather my collection of lenses. Currently I am thoroughly enjoying the Canon 85 1.2 mm lens but no one lens can capture the vision you have with every subject matter. I have my go to lenses for everyday use but throughout the creative process I find myself experimenting with other options so that I can see a subject in a multitude of ways.

4. What do you offer that is special or unique?
I believe what makes me unique is my exceptional customer service. I believe that if you have the ability to put yourself in the shoes of your customer you will find an incredible opportunity to evaluate and value your services as would a consumer. It is a humbling and eye opening exercise to remove one’s own ego and put another’s needs before your own. That approach to customer service is part of my mission statement and it guides me in all my business endeavors.

Photoplay Photography North Carolina5. What advice would you give couples searching for a photographer?
If I were looking for a photographer, I would look for someone with whom I could easily communicate. I believe that the report that you have with your photographer contributes to the lovely images you want. If you can easily laugh with them and they are open to your ideas then it will show in your mutual creativity and in your countenance.

6. What do you love most about photographing weddings?
If I were to have to choose one thing I love most about shooting weddings it would be the small part I play in a family’s history. It is a joy to know that for years to come the images we create on a wedding day will be the precious historical record for a family. My heart swells in knowing that someday, someone may look back and hold with such treasure one moment in time that I was able to capture. It’s amazing to me and I love playing a part each and every time.

7. Are there any fun facts we should know about you?
The best fun fact about me is my history. I began my career in the Army which led to my life in public service. Most people are surprised when they find out I had a career in the fire service and in law enforcement. It was the challenge that drew me to train so hard in those early years. Eventually, it was the need to challenge my creative side that led me to my love of photography.
