Prince Charles will finally marry his longtime lover, Camilla Parker Bowels
on April 8th. The announcement, four days before St. Valentine's Day, came
as a surprise to many royal observers. The wedding will be a civil ceremony
in the Windsor Castle, followed by a service of prayer and dedication in St
Georges Chapel at which the Archbishop of Canterbury will preside. The wedding is expected to be a much simpler one compared to the glamorous wedding of Charles and Diana in London's St Pauls Cathedral in July 1981.
Camilla is widely believed to have been Prince Charles mistress while he was
still married to Princess Diana. Diana, Princess of Whales, died in a car
crash in Paris in 1997. Charles' love life has been the cause of much
speculation in Britain since the death of Diana, one year after the couple
divorced. Camilla Parker Bowles, 57, who divorced her husband Andrew in
1995, has been the significant love of Charles life in recent years but it
has always been difficult to gain acceptance from the public because the
princess famously referred to Camilla as one of the contributing factors in
the breakdown of her marriage to Charles.
Camilla will be known as Princess Consort rather than Queen Camilla When
Prince Charles becomes King. Charles would be the supreme governor of the
Church of England and some Anglicans remain opposed to the remarriage of
divorcees.
Camilla has two children, Tom 30, and Laura, 24. Prince Charles also has
two children, princes William 20, and Harry 18.
